GameOps Joins First Philippine Delegation to Nordic Game 2023 in Sweden
GameOps joined the Philippines’ first official delegation to Nordic Game 2023 in Malmö, Sweden, showcasing Philippine game development capabilities, building new connections with the European games industry, and helping open more opportunities for Filipino game companies in the global market.
June 2023, Malmö, Sweden — GameOps, Inc. proudly represented the Philippines at Nordic Game 2023, joining the country’s first official game development delegation to one of Europe’s leading conferences for game developers and industry professionals.
Held from May 23–26, 2023 at Slagthuset in Malmö, Sweden, Nordic Game brought together game developers, publishers, investors, service providers, and industry leaders from the Nordic region and around the world for several days of networking, business meetings, knowledge sharing, and industry discussions.
GameOps joined fellow Philippine game companies Neun Farben Corporation, Mata Technologies, Inc., Seaversity, Inc., and Taktyl Studios as part of the five-company delegation organized by the Department of Trade and Industry – Export Marketing Bureau (DTI-EMB) and the International Trade Centre (ITC) in collaboration with the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP).
The participation was supported through the ARISE Plus Philippines Project, funded by the European Union, as part of efforts to help Philippine companies establish stronger market linkages in Europe and diversify their international opportunities.
For GameOps, Nordic Game 2023 represented more than another international industry event. It was an opportunity to help introduce the Philippine game development industry to a new European market and demonstrate the capabilities Filipino game companies can bring to global partners.
Bringing GameOps to the Nordic Games Industry
The Nordic region is home to one of the world’s most respected game development ecosystems, with internationally recognized developers, publishers, and game franchises originating from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland.
Participating in Nordic Game gave GameOps an opportunity to connect directly with this ecosystem.
Throughout the event, GameOps met with developers, publishers, and other game industry professionals to introduce the company’s capabilities and explore potential opportunities for international collaboration.
GameOps showcased its expertise in Quality Assurance, Live Operations, and Player Support—specialized services designed to support developers and publishers throughout different stages of a game’s lifecycle.
As global game production becomes increasingly collaborative, GameOps believes the Philippines can play a larger role in supporting international development teams.
Nordic Game gave the company an opportunity to bring that message to Europe.
Opening New Doors for Philippine Game Development in Europe
One of the primary objectives of the Philippine delegation was to establish new connections between Philippine game development companies and the European market.
According to the Department of Trade and Industry, the five participating Philippine companies generated approximately US$1.67 million in actual and potential export sales, alongside 71 additional trade leads following 26 business-to-business meetings during the mission.
These results demonstrated the commercial opportunities available when Philippine game companies are given greater access to international markets.
But the value of the delegation extended beyond immediate business leads.
For GameOps, participating in events like Nordic Game is about establishing relationships that can grow over time.
International partnerships rarely happen after a single meeting. They begin with introductions, continue through conversations, and develop as companies gain a better understanding of each other’s capabilities and needs.
Being physically present in Malmö gave GameOps and the rest of the Philippine delegation an opportunity to begin building those relationships within the Nordic and wider European games industry.
Learning From One of Europe’s Strongest Game Development Ecosystems
Nordic Game 2023 was not limited to meetings on the conference floor.
As part of the mission, the Philippine delegation also had the opportunity to visit several organizations and studios within Sweden’s game development ecosystem, including Game Habitat, Massive Entertainment, Tarsier Studios, Avalanche Studios Group, and The Game Assembly.
The visits provided a closer look at how one of Europe’s strongest game development communities has built an environment that supports studios, talent, education, innovation, and international collaboration.
For GameOps, exposure to other game development ecosystems is an important part of industry growth.
International participation is not only about showcasing what the Philippines can offer. It is also an opportunity to learn.
Understanding how established game development markets nurture talent, encourage collaboration, develop companies, and connect their local ecosystems with international opportunities provides valuable insights that can help Philippine companies and industry advocates think about what can be built back home.
Showcasing the Philippines as a Game Development Partner
Philippine game industry professionals have been contributing to international game projects for years.
From game development and art to animation, Quality Assurance, Live Operations, Player Support, and other specialized services, Filipino talent has demonstrated its ability to work alongside international teams.
The challenge is making those capabilities more visible.
GameOps believes participation in international industry events is one of the ways the Philippines can change that.
When Philippine companies consistently show up at major game development events, meet international decision-makers, and successfully deliver for global partners, the country’s reputation grows with them.
Nordic Game 2023 provided an opportunity to introduce European companies not only to GameOps, but to a broader Philippine game development ecosystem.
Instead of promoting individual businesses in isolation, participating as a delegation allowed the companies to demonstrate the diversity of capabilities available within the Philippines.
Together, Philippine companies can tell a much bigger story about what the country can contribute to global game development.
GameOps’ Commitment to Philippine Game Industry Development
For GameOps, joining the Nordic Game delegation also reflects a commitment that extends beyond the company’s own business development.
Since its founding, GameOps has believed that its growth should contribute to the growth of the wider Philippine game development industry.
That means creating more opportunities for Filipino professionals, sharing international market knowledge, building connections with global partners, and helping strengthen recognition of the Philippines as a destination for game development and game services.
International delegations play an important role in that mission.
Every Philippine company that successfully enters a new market helps create awareness for the companies that follow. Every international partnership helps build confidence in Philippine capabilities. And every relationship developed overseas can potentially lead to new projects, knowledge, investment, and employment opportunities back home.
GameOps wants to be part of building that momentum.
Stronger Philippine Connections With the Global Games Industry
The results from Nordic Game 2023 show what can happen when government, industry organizations, international partners, and Philippine companies work together toward a shared goal.
The country’s first participation at Nordic Game was organized by DTI-EMB and ITC in collaboration with GDAP, with support from the European Union-funded ARISE Plus Philippines Project.
The initiative was specifically designed to help Philippine game development companies build linkages with prospective European clients and diversify their export markets.
For GameOps, collaborations like these demonstrate the importance of approaching industry development as a collective effort.
Private companies bring expertise and services to the market. Industry organizations help unite and represent the sector. Government and international partners can help open doors to new markets.
When those efforts come together, Philippine companies gain opportunities that would be much more difficult to create individually.
From Malmö to More Global Opportunities
Nordic Game 2023 may have concluded, but the relationships and opportunities created during the mission are only beginning.
GameOps returns from Sweden with new industry connections, a deeper understanding of the Nordic games ecosystem, and an even stronger belief in the potential of Philippine game development on the global stage.
The experience also reinforced something GameOps has believed for years:
The Philippines has the talent. The next step is making sure the world knows where to find it.
Participating in Nordic Game is one more step toward making that happen.
As GameOps continues to build relationships with developers and publishers around the world, the company remains committed to bringing Philippine game development capabilities into more international conversations—and helping create more opportunities for the wider industry along the way.
From the Philippines to Malmö, we’re proud to represent Filipino game development on the global stage.
To everyone we met at Nordic Game 2023—and to our fellow delegates and partners who made the Philippines’ first participation possible—tack, and see you again soon.
